Katelyn grew up in a home surrounded by music and dancing. It filled that home with joy and love so it didn't shock her loved ones when she decided she wanted to follow that music wherever it would take her. Armed with a less than stellar singing voice, she attended the University of Houston for Broadcasting and found that although she didn't have the voice of an angel, she did had the gift of conversation. "I love to talk to people. I get that from my dad. He can talk to the wall, make friends with any stranger, and lend a helping hand to anyone in need. I am very much his daughter. When I realized that I could combine my love of entertainment and music with my love of conversation, I made a career in entertainment my ultimate goal and radio was where I first set my sights." Thanks to the University of Houston internship program Katelyn started a double internship with Houston's Cox Media Group. "I quit my job at an elementary school during college and devoted 100% of my time to my craft with that double internship." Studying under radio veterans and mentors Johnny Chiang and Christi Brooks, Katelyn learned the radio essentials. "Johnny saw a kid who was eager and willing to learn and gave me a chance to do it. I can never repay him for that. I was a sponge who didn't know everything but I was ready to soak it all up."
From her internship Katelyn quickly transitioned into a part time on air personality and board operator. "I had to keep learning. I wasn't ready to stop. I told Johnny to give me all the work he possibly could." When she noticed the media company was lacking a social media strategy she decided to take action. With a business plan, a few meetings, and the help of her peers Cox Media launched their new position of 'Online DJ'. This position allowed Katelyn to be both a content creator and stay on the air. Creating that content on all three of the radio stations social channels while also conducting interviews in front of the camera gave her irreplaceable knowledge on the fast paced changes that social media was bringing to radio. "To be on the air wasn't enough anymore. I had to learn to do it all." Thus her original radio alias of 'Connected K' was born. After a few years of doing radio and social in her hometown of Houston, market number 5, Dallas/Fort Worth came knocking thanks to the vision of J.R. Schumann. "I was new-ish in the industry compared to some, but I had the heart and the drive to keep learning. J.R. called me one day and said "You're what we need in Dallas. We need you to continue to bridge the gap." and I knew that I had to do.. continue to grow, be that sponge. I packed my up the U-Haul, hugged my family until they almost burst and headed to North Texas to start my time on the legendary KSCS."
After beloved radio legend Terry Dorsey of KSCS retired from their morning show, his longtime co-host was looking for a new partner. Katelyn was more than eager to take the job but the original launch looked very different come her first day on the air. "I joined the show during a major transition for our listeners. They grew up their whole lives with Terry Dorsey. After his retirement he tragically passed away the day before my first day on the show. My role there quickly became more than just a partnership. I showed up ready to support my new team and thousands of listeners who were mourning such a great loss." Alongside longtime radio veteran Mark "Hawkeye" Louis, Katelyn brought both laughter and comfort to thousands living in the metroplex every day. From the infamous 'Second Date Update' to riding camels down a racetrack, marrying couples inside a Whataburger and all the in between you could always trust that Katelyn was up for anything. Her passion for country music even drew the attention of the local CBS affiliate, who enlisted Katelyn to report on entertainment award shows and weekly entertainment reports for the CBS 11 Morning News. Katelyn spent 6 years in Dallas/Fort Worth on the Hawkeye in the Morning show before making her way back to where it all started...
In February of 2021 Katelyn made her return debut in Houston on the radio station that she grew up listening to and started her career on. Full circle.
